We’ve been quite often asked by our client in sydney about if we do Reportage Wedding Photography or Journalistic Wedding Photography
The word ‘Reportage Wedding Photographer’ is one of the most misused in the whole of the wedding photography industry. We’d like to take a little time to explain what it actually means and how the true meaning of the word suits my approach.
While most of our work takes place in Sydney, Central Coast and Wollongong, We specialise in photographing weddings in the NSW and internationally.
First of all, if you would like to see some examples of our work, then head over to the portfolio of wedding photography or wedding gallery pages where you can see thousands of pictures taken in a reportage (aka documentary) style from over hundreds of weddings.
We have also written extensively about the misuse of ‘report wedding photography’ to describe a series of images based on ‘snipping’ headshots of people with long lenses from vast distances. There’s a fundamental belief that if anyone doesn’t look at the camera, it’s a photograph of a reporter, and that’s just plain wrong!
So What is Reportage Wedding Photography?
Ultimately, it’s not about documenting the day’s storey, it’s not about isolated shoe portraits or videos, or making up posed pictures. It’s about telling a true and honest storey – capturing the mood and the environment, photographing the action (and the response) and photographing subjects in a context more often than not.
It uses the photographer’s ability to produce emotional and compelling photos that will elicit memories for years to come and it doesn’t matter the size of the wedding, it’s a perfect way to create powerful images at any event to adopt this concept.
It’s a hands-off technique that focuses on letting couples and visitors relax, forgetting that there is even a photographer and only enjoying themselves. I work very hard to develop a great relationship with you and guests alike so that I can get close and capture those brilliant moments of fun and touch that make a wedding so special.
If you do want to have a Reportage Wedding Photography , please do let us know when you contact us, we’ll accommodate any style you wish for your most important day.
